online resource about the crisis in Darfur for use at KS3
year 8 or above in secondary schools. All the materials you
will need to complete the day or half day sessions are available

| Artefact Boxes |

| Eight themed artefact boxes
are available to hire at £5 per week. The boxes are
designed enhance children’s learning of different countries
and topics. Each box has about ten artefacts and accompanying
resources for teachers of 7 – 11 year olds (Key Stage
2). |

| A box full of colour and
sparkle, including clothing, bangles, food platters and cups.
As well as ideas for activities, there is a fascinating DVD
on children’s life in Kolkata and there are books and
photos taken of the Indian community (Ladypool Road) in
Birmingham |

| A box packed with items
to help pupils find out more about fair-trade. Includes lots
of fair-trade goods – toys, food, clothes- posters,
leaflets and books with a host of activity ideas. |

| This box contains plenty
of eye-catching objects such as a Mexican chocolate whisk,
a donkey rattle and skeleton decorations for the Day of the
Dead. There is a guidance pack with background to the objects
and ideas for the classroom, including recipes and piñata
instructions. A CD Rom full of photos of city and country
life is also included. Amongst some of the objects are cooking
items, toys & decorations, religious artefacts. |

| My Brand New Bicycle - global
solutions to rubbish |
| Over a dozen artefacts from
Africa to inspire pupils to reduce, re-use and recycle. Includes
toys and instruments made in Zambia out of recycled materials
and unusual items such as a horsehair flywhisk and a goatskin
fan. Five books compliment the artefacts with ideas on how
to use everyday objects to make new things in Design and
Technology and Art. |

| Southern Africa Boxes |
| We hire out 4 artefact boxes
containing resources collected from ordinary people in southern
Africa. They come with a pack of lesson plans, worksheets
and a CD Rom. The focus is KS2, but the boxes can be adapted
for use with other age groups. |

The Bridges Bulletin and
Global Planner are published three times a year. The bulletin
gives readers an update of current opportunities and events
organised by Bridges. It also highlights forthcoming educational
opportunities for those wishing to raise awareness of global
issues and diversity.
The Global Planner is our very popular calendar that lists
events from around the world and at home that are interesting
or useful for educators or individuals with an interest in
world affairs.
