Heroes and Heroines – Carrying the torch for a fairer world
Primary Pack for schools preparing for the 2012 Olympics
The Olympic games feature men and women from around the world who have become the best at their sport and succeeded, often against the odds. This pack features heroes and heroines who have overcome great obstacles to make the world fairer. We use these inspiring people to explore the Olympic vales of respect, excellence and friendship and the Paralympic valies of courage, determination, inspiration and equality. We use these to help examine other types of equality, including gender.
We hope these stories and the activities accompanying them will inspire pupils and students to undertake their own sporting or non-sporting ‘heroic’ actions and gain the skills they need to make the world fairer for all men and women and children.
'Speak Out for a Fairer World' is a short film to inspire Key stage 2-3 pupils to share thier message with others. In this film, pupils from primary and secondary school show how they have been speaking our against unfairness in the world to other pupils, teachers and adults in the community. The accompanying guide is to help teachers support pupils through the process of speaking out.
