| "Exploring
Stereotypes" with the Hadley Juniors Youth Club |
Number
of participants: 7
Ethnic backgrounds: White British
Age range: 8-11
|
| The Hadley Juniors Youth Club produced
masks to explore the stereotypes of individuals and groups in
their local community. Each participant produced two masks to
represent their outside face, and their inside face which concerns
their personality, experience and opinions. |
| At times the outside face and the inside
face contradicted each other, which shows how easy it is to jump
to conclusions and treat people differently because of their
accent, appearance, class, gender and age. |
| For some, stereotypes may not have any
great impact on their day-to-day lives, but for others, negative
stereotypes may lead to groups being treated differently or unfairly
because they do not fit the 'norm'. The workshop enabled young
people to develop an appreciation of diversity and to develop
respect for others. |
