"Appreciating Diversity" at a Shrewsbury residential home
Number of participants: 20
Ethnic backgrounds: White British
Age range: 60-96
Inspired by Hannah Adjepong's poem "Wisdom in a jar?" the Edgefield Green group produced a jar filled with their own wisdom and insights, which they felt would be useful for all backgrounds and ages.
The group shared their thoughts and feelings about all aspects of life, covering work, leisure, relationships, loss and spirituality.
The process of producing the art work enabled the group to empathise with Hannah’s experience of moving to Britain and adjusting to British values and culture. In addition it strengthened their appreciation of their own individual and group diversity.
