Workshops & projects
Inspired by the Views from Shropshire oral histories, seven groups in Shropshire from different ages and backgrounds produced art work to help explore ‘identity’, ‘diversity’ and ‘belonging’. These are some of the many underlying issues and themes raised in the book.
From the ages of seven to ninety-two, people from all backgrounds in both schools and community groups, have demonstrated the relevance of the Views from Shropshire oral histories. They have been used to celebrate common values and experiences, irrespective of culture or backgrounds.
The Views from Shropshire oral histories have since been used in an intergenerational project hosted by Age Concern, and a Bridges peer-mentoring project, at the Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology. There, young people from the Business and Tourism group delivered educational workshops to their peers, to help raise awareness about the cultural and ethnic diversity in Shropshire, and also to challenge discrimination and prejudice.
